Vol. 1 No. 9

Dear Friends,

We want to greet you all in the wonderful name of Jesus. As the months clip by we are amazed that we have been in South Africa for almost an entire year. In some ways it seems as though we just arrived yesterday, while in others it seems we have been here forever. We have so much grace and peace as a family and we can't imagine ourselves being anywhere else than right where we are. The Lord has done so many things in the short time that we have been here. We believe that what we have experienced so far is just the beginning of all that God has purposed for us in Africa.

As usual there is much to update you on concerning the family and the ministry here. The biggest unexpected event during the month of September was Cliff's emergency cholecystectomy. For the less medically inclined that would be the removal of the gallbladder. Thanks to modern technology Cliff was able to have a laperoscopy procedure. Again, for the less medically minded ones out there, this procedure is done through four small holes in the abdomen instead of a large incision. This makes recovery time much quicker. Cliff was back on his feet in a day and traveled the following week to De Aar to teach for five days. He feels better than ever before! We are grateful for God's care and provision for us during this whole ordeal. We have some of the finest healthcare in the world right here in our little town of Worcester. Thanks for all your prayers during this exciting time!

The month was also very busy with personal ministry. We continue to develop many relationships and the Lord is using us to minister into the lives of many people here in Worcester. We also continued during the month to meet corporately with many in the body of Christ in the city. God is raising up more and more people who really desire a fresh experience of community and spiritual interaction with one another. We are simply encouraging people to meet regularly and allow the Lord to begin to build them together as the body of Christ. It is truly exciting to see what the Lord is doing during these days.

Stephanie has been very busy with here involvement at YWAM. Most of the month of September was spent preparing for the Discipleship Training School (DTS) that began on September 29th. The school has 35 students from twelve nations, including Angola, Canada, Finland, Holland, Ivory Coast, Namibia, Nigeria, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, Zimbabwe, and the US. Stephanie was able to go on a two day planning retreat with the staff during the middle of the month. The DTS is in full swing now and Stephanie spends most mornings on the base with the students in teaching, worship and personal ministry.

As we already mentioned, Cliff traveled to the city of De Aar to minister there for a week at the end of the month. This was the most significant "out of town" teaching conference that Cliff has had since we have been here. It was a wonderful experience and the Lord confirmed to us that Cliff needs to be involved in ministry more "outside" of Worcester. This opporunity came about through a new friend, Victor Tshabalala (see Ministry Highlight). Cliff took along two other brothers who are good friends and co-laborers in the work to be a part of the week's ministry time. The people in De Aar were very open to the word of the Lord. The church was strengthened and encouraged in many ways. There are several very committed men and women who are laboring there in De Aar. While Cliff was there the Lord spoke clearly that our involvement in De Aar is going to be "from a distance." So we will be praying carefully concerning our return in the future. We desire strongly to see leaders in De Aar raised up who can take the church on in the purposes of the Lord.

Thank you for your continued prayers. May God richly bless you today.

Cliff, Stephanie, Camille, Natalie, and Wesley

Victor Tshabalala
International Disciples in Action

Victor is a new friend in ministry. Cliff and Victor met a couple of months ago and recently ministered together for a week in the city of De Aar. Victor started International Disciples in Action (IDIA) in 1994 with the vision to see the body of Christ equipped and to see communities impacted by the gospel. Through the implementation of "Power Dimension Projects," IDIA addresses real issues in communities including unemployment, poverty, crime and prostitution. Victor has devoted himself the last couple of years to establishing residential training centers in numerous cities across South Africa. These training centers are devoted to establishing the body of Christ upon a strong word-based foundation by equipping leaders who will in turn impact their communities. Victor has a strong teaching gift and moves powerfully in prophetic teaching and deliverance. We know that God has linked Cliff and Victor together for further ministry in the future. We will keep you updated on all that God does through this key relationship.

Camille's Birthday!

Camille invited her girlfriends from school to celebrate her 8th birthday on September 5th. South Africans have Spring Day on September 1st so we had a spring party theme. The party was at the Karoo Garden and the girls had fun playing outside. Camille's butterfly birthday cake was a hit and the party was a success!

All the kids at the birthday party.

Natalie earns recognition at school.

We were so proud of Natalie when she was awarded a certificate for earning 10 stars. The girls are rewarded beans for their good behaviour. Every time Natalie's jar is full of beans she receives a star. She already won her 5 star certificate and in September she reached 10 stars for the year. Both the girls have been presented certificates by the headmaster during Friday assembly. Camille has already received her 50 merits and 100 merits certificates. Well done girls!

Prayer Requests

1. Pray that the Lord will show us clearly where we are to live next year. We have to move from our present house by December 31st.

2. Pray that the seed planted in De Aar will grow and bear much fruit for the kingdom of God.

3. Pray that the Lord will pour out His Spirit in Worcester and that the body of Christ would be healed of a stronghold of division.

4. Pray that God will provide us with a small car that will be lighter on fuel and allow Cliff to move about more freely in ministry.

Special Prayer Request

We want to ask you to pray with us for the rest of the year concerning our financial needs. As many of you know we are fully supported by the financial gifts of people in the body of Christ. We are not permitted to earn income here in South Africa due to the type of visas we have. Therefore, we continue to trust the Lord for our provision to be here and do the ministry He has called us to do. We are praying that He will strengthen our support base for the upcoming year by putting it on people's hearts to be involved in our ministry on a monthly basis. After being on the field for almost a year, we have been able to get a good handle on what it costs to be here. We have averaged close to $2000 per month in donations during our first year. With the current rand/dollar exchange rate we are in need of $2500-$3000 per month. With the changes in our housing situation at the end of the year, we hope to significantly lower our monthly expenses. Please pray with us concerning these needs.

The bulk of our ongoing support currently comes from 10-12 faithful givers. We know that many people feel like small gifts are insignificant. However, just the opposite is true. So please pray about your possible involvement in our ministry this coming year and be obedient even if it's only a small amount every month.

God is so faithful to provide and we know that any way you choose to give will be an investment that will be a blessing to us and the Lord's work here in South Africa. Thanks so much for your prayers.
